The Big BEar theatre Project Playwrights Lab

Creating Worlds Playwright Festival 2026

Submission Deadline: May 31, 2026 at 11:59 pm

The Big Bear Theatre Project invites playwrights to submit proposals for our inaugural Playwrights Lab - a two-week intensive development program culminating in public readings at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center.

Read details below.

Theme: "Creating Worlds"

“They fear love because it creates a world they can’t control.”

— attributed to George Orwell, 1984

We invite writers to immerse themselves in the power of make-believe and explore how we build realities through love, resistance, and imagination. How do we create worlds that challenge the status quo? What happens when our visions collide with structures of power? Where do we find the freedom to imagine differently? Come to Big Bear and bring this world to life - a 10-minute piece, just 2 characters, and your imagination.
